Virginia: Work in Progress Pierside at U.S. Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek
In May 2009 even more progress was made on the restoration of ZUNI/TAMAROA. See the photos below for images from some of the work during this period.

29 May 09: Since arriving at Pier 12N, Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, VA, in December 2008, the ZUNI-TAMAROA and the Zuni Maritime Foundation have experienced many successes. Just being afforded the opportunity for the ship to "return to the fold" for a time has been one of our greatest joys. Thanks to NAB for the welcome!
Seven work weekends have been completed since mid-February, plus one full Work Week 11-17 May. During the full week, 25 volunteers contributed approximately 548 man-hours.
The latest development we are most excited about is the pending agreement with the City of Portsmouth, VA, for the ZUNI-TAMAROA to be moored at the Portsmouth City waterfront. We stated our mission to the Portsmouth City Council on 9 June 2009. We now await their decision to partner with the Zuni Maritime Foundation and make the City of Portsmouth the homeport for the good ship ZUNI-TAMAROA.
When we receive our formal invitation, we will work toward acquiring the necessary funding for shipyard work and continuing restoration. We recently requested an updated cost estimate and schedule from a local shipyard. We will pass along more information as it becomes available.
We are grateful for the assistance that everyone at NAB has given the ZUNI-TAMAROA and the opportunity to bring the ship ALIVE again.

You never forget the old shipboard skills: Vince and Jim doing renovations in the galley.

Education remains a primary charge for the Foundation. Jeff Dotson instructs Boy Scouts Erik Neklason and Colton Smith on flag folding.
