NAFTS Visit

August 31, 2002

Over the Labor Day Weekend, the National Association of Fleet Tug Sailors (NAFTS) held it's Annual Convention in Washington, DC. Over 70 members of NAFTS visited the Tamaroa at her berth in Baltimore on Saturday, August 31. It was commented on that there hadn't been that many people aboard the Tam since her decomissioning!

The Tamaroa holds a special significance to NAFTS members as she was initially the Naval Fleet Tug USS Zuni (ATF-95) which served with great distinction in the Pacific during World War II.

At their Annual Business Meeting the NAFTS membership unanimously endorsed a resolution supporting the Tamaroa Maritime Foundation and its goals of restoring the Tamaroa and highlighting the unsung efforts of work boats such as fleet tugs and other auxilaries.

Please take a moment to look at the pictures below and to visit the NAFTS website.
